Our Story

At the end of 2020, Coulter was tasked with building a new website for Connecting Streams, a ministry within Power to Change. After months of work, the time came in the Spring for a video call with various team members to wrap up the new website project. Little did Coulter know, Sydney was the Executive Assistant to the National Director of Connecting Streams, and was asked to join the call last minute. Only 10 minutes into the call, as Coulter was sharing borderline unprofessional stories about shooting crows off his back deck (hypothetically of course), Sydney seemed think he was funny.

They both unknowingly stalked each other’s Instagram profiles during/after the call, and by the weekend they were sending messages to each other that took up the entire screen. On the Monday (a holiday), they remotely watched back to back movies together (since Sydney lives near Ottawa and Coulter near Vancouver) – they later realized that this was their first date!

Around this time, Coulter casually mentioned to Sydney that he was going to “be in the Ottawa area to see a friend and use some vacation”. A couple months later when Sydney and her family learned of Coulter’s very sketchy choice in cheap AirBNB accomodations, they offered for him to stay with her family. It only took a short 24 hours after he landed before the two were fully confident in how compatible they are, and how thankful they are to have found each other.

After many long calls and messages, TV show binges, multiple visits to each other’s parts of the country, and a lot of secret planning by Coulter to successfully surprise Sydney, he proposed on November 1, 2021! They ordered  Subway and watched their favourite show at that time, until the evening when they went home and excitedly talked all the way.
